Part 3 – I’m Learning Not to Transfer My Emotions
and Not to Mirror Other People’s.
Not responding to unkindness with unkindness
is hard.
Not giving back the same thing when it hurts us
is hard.
“That’s unfair!”
It’s training.
The best training in the world.
Yes, it’s hard.
But You can do it.
You’ll learn.
Not responding to anger with anger.
Not responding to sadness with sadness.
Not responding to resentment with resentment.
Now that is a real challenge.
To separate it within myself,
in the present moment:
– is this mine?
We react like mirrors to each other’s emotions.
As if having our own wasn’t enough,
we react to other people’s too.
Madness. 🙂
See – Stop – Change
In difficult conversations.
In everyday communication.
In stopping the emotional mirroring,
however and wherever it happens.
Emotions that we manage
are our strength.
Emotions that no one manages
are a sandstorm.
They cover everything that matters
– remember?… just 3 sentences.
Emotions that two people don’t manage
become a disaster.
For the home,
for the relationship,
for everything we are trying to build.
How much easier it could become
if we started learning this
from ourselves.
Emotions are important,
but they don’t have to direct my behavior.
Emotions are important as my Signposts,
as important information,
but they don’t know how to build my relationships.
Not responding to anger with anger.
Not responding to sadness with sadness.
Not responding to resentment with resentment.
